The Other Side Of Cebu
Cebu maybe just a small island in the middle of the Philippines but it has a potential that some people may have failed to realize.

Because of our abundant resources including, great beaches, fertile lands, hospitable people, highly adaptible workforce, well-balanced weather, strategic location, and a lot more, Cebu could easily become one of the most progressive provinces in the Philippines -- even comparable to some of the top Cities in the world... the question is 'When?'

Only when we realize the advantages and strengths that Cebu has over other provinces can we begin to know our roles in this development. It surely will require for us to undergo certain sacrifices and dramatic changes especially in our moral and political attitudes but it will be a sacrifice that is well worth every centavo.

Changes have to start with us. Development will happen naturally.

I was a local Cebuano back then. Downtown used to be Colon Street. My taxi was diverted to swing the old downtown because of traffic. My oh my the buildings in old downtown is an eyesore. Most of the buildings were not repainted, no signs of being renovated. In north america some old downtowns become a landmark and are kept nice. I wish there is a municipal or provincial program in Cebu to have these buildings kept even have it repainted every five years. Although a 3rd world country it could be still a world class. Colon district appears to be left behind in this ever changing world. I was going to tell the driver to stop so I could reminisce the old days where I wander the long stretch of Colon street however I did not feel safe. Even the taxi driver didn't recommend it. On the bright side, the heart of Cebuanos are still courteous, friendly and warm.

Cebu like many "third world", "developing" countries in the world is going through the process of establishing itself.

I am a visitor here and I can say that Cebu is a land of oportunity. The majority of the population being in the low income group is too busy making ends meet, to see the great opportunities right before their eyes.

Many natural resources are going to waste because of lack of information on how to utilise available resources.

I am americn and I agree with the first comment about
the enforcement of the laws...If the citizens here would just realize that kickbacks and imposing higher
fines on richer people really hurt...because the gov
is not seeing the money for this to afford to give better services...also why are some homes taxed very
highly and then others have no tax at all....it is not
fair here for the medium to upper classes.

That's strange... As far as I know, San Francisco is part of Cebu.

I have built a house on Camotes Island. The island is 25 miles east of Cebu. There are about 100 foreigners living on San Fran and Poro. My 13,000 sq meters of developed beach property has increased in value 800 percent since I bought it 3 years ago. Do not live in Cebu, it is a congested nightmare. Invest in Camotes, San Francisco.

The increase in traffic congestions and traffic accidents is probably one sign that Cebu is indeed devloping. I don't know if it's a good thing but I sort of miss the old days.

Hi onlyme_6000@yahoo.com,
Thank you for your question. cebuwatch.com is a private endeavor and has no connection to any government office. I hope to make it a 1-stop-site for relevant information about Cebu, unfortunately, as I am the only one working on this, progress is quite slow.
Best regards!

Hi, thank you especially for the Cebuano Dialect page that was posted here. I just can't put a comment under that so my comment is right here. Just wondering, is cebuwatch.com privately-owned or is this connected to any government office?

I agree. One thing that is probably holding us back is our notorious inefficient and inconsistent law enforcement.
